Wall Township, NJ — Emergency services in Wall Township responded to a vehicular accident last night at 11:40pm on Highway 34 near Megill Road, where a car struck and snapped a utility pole, resulting in the closure of the highway in both directions for approximately three hours. The collision led to the falling of all utility lines across the roadway, prompting a significant emergency response.

The driver, identified as Thomas Vaughan, 30, of Manahawkin, was arrested on the scene for driving while intoxicated (DWI). As a result of the incident, Highway 34 was closed temporarily to facilitate the removal of the downed utility lines and the pole.

The power company will be present throughout the day to complete necessary repairs and ensure that the utility lines are safely restored. Drivers are advised to exercise caution when traveling near the affected area as repair work continues.

Vaughan’s arrest serves as a sobering reminder of the potential dangers of driving under the influence, not only posing a risk to oneself but also causing significant disruption and hazards for the community at large.
