Prince Frederick, MD — Members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, including its Special Operations Team, K9 Unit, and civilian staff, hosted the 2023 Law Enforcement Torch Run today in support of Special Olympics Maryland. According to a social media post by the Sheriff’s Office, the event took place in Prince Frederick, where team members carried the ‘Flame of Hope.’

During the run, participants made “a special stop to visit our friends and Special Olympic athletes at the Calvert Country School,” stated the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office. The encounter with the students provided an uplifting element to the event.

“The crisp fall temps made for the perfect run, but it was the smiles on the student’s faces as they were high-fiving their local hometown heroes that made this event extra SPECIAL,” added the post.

The Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to the community for its support during the event, thanking “all the participants and everyone that waved, honked, and supported us on the run.” The Torch Run serves as a key fundraising and awareness-raising initiative for the Special Olympics, and the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office expressed pride in its role in supporting the cause.
