Indiana Pair Face Felony Neglect Charges Amid Unlivable Conditions in Trailer Home

An Indiana mother and uncle, previously guilty of felony meth possession, now confront felony neglect charges concerning a 10-year-old boy reportedly living in squalor.

On October 11, authorities inspected the residence of Lindsey Jo Lydick, 38, and Cole Byron Lydick, 36, in Clayton, following a distressing report. The Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department’s affidavit reveals the trailer home on U.S. Highway 40 was laden with feces, mold, maggots, and housed several animals including a Great Dane.

Upon arrival, Sgt. Josh Nohren detected a potent urine odor emanating from the trailer, with copious dog feces tracing a path to the front door. Inside, alongside a Great Dane and four cats, the conditions worsened with the “odor of animal urine” intensifying amidst floors strewn with debris, clutter, and moldy clothing.

Despite these conditions, the 10-year-old boy, referred to as “V1,” appeared to be in good health, albeit residing in a room shared with his mother amidst considerable filth.

The inspection further disclosed a bathroom heavily soiled with animal waste, and a seemingly unused shower. This revealing inquiry now adds a bleak chapter of alleged neglect to the duo’s already tarnished legal history.
