"Mountain Dew Man" Convicted for Murdering Elderly Couple on New Hampshire Trail

CONCORD, NH – A Merrimack County jury found Logan L. Clegg guilty of fatally shooting Stephen Reid, 67, and Djeswende “Wendy” Reid, 66, on a hiking trail last year. Clegg faces potential life imprisonment for the killings, which took place in April 2022.

Clegg, also known to authorities as “Mountain Dew Man” due to the debris at his campsite, was convicted on all counts, including four counts of second-degree murder. Additional charges led to Clegg’s conviction on four counts of falsifying evidence and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The trial spanned nearly three weeks.

Following the verdict, Assistant New Hampshire Attorney General Josh Speicher expressed satisfaction with the jury’s decision. “The jury got it right,” Speicher said. “This provides some closure and accountability for the families.”

Brian Reid, son of the murdered couple, spoke to the media after the trial. “A liar, a thief, a murderer has been brought to justice today,” he said. “The legacy of my parents will endure. May the justice that has been served aid in our healing.”

According to court documents, the couple departed their home at the Alton Woods apartment complex around 2:22 p.m. on April 18, 2022, to go for a walk. Their bodies were found three days later near the Marsh Loop Trail, both having suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
