DENTON, MD – A 47-year-old construction worker from Denton on Maryland’s Eastern Shore parlayed a modest $50 lottery win into a staggering $1 million. The man cashed a $50 winning scratch-off early this week, using the funds to buy more tickets, including a $1 Million Royale scratch-off that later revealed the top prize.

The individual had initially stopped at Safeway #1539, located at 4211 Mountain Road in Pasadena, to check a previously purchased scratch-off ticket. Realizing he had won $50, he opted to buy two $20 scratch-offs and one $10 scratch-off. He scratched off his new tickets later in the day, revealing the $1 million win on the $1 Million Royale ticket.

The winner immediately phoned his girlfriend, initially causing her to believe he had been in a car accident due to his stuttered speech. Once the news settled, he secured the ticket in a safe and later claimed the prize. The man plans to purchase new vehicles for both himself and his girlfriend, saving the remainder of his windfall.

Safeway #1539 will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the $1 million top-prize winning ticket. The $1 Million Royale scratch-off game still has multiple prizes available, including five more $1 million top prizes, five $50,000 prizes, sixty-one $10,000 prizes, and several ranging from $10 to $5,000.
