Rise in “Bank Jugging” Incidents Prompts Warning from Sheriff’s Office

CUMBERLAND, MD — Allegany County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning concerning a surge in “Bank Jugging” robberies within and around the state. Victims, after withdrawing cash from banks or ATMs, are followed and subsequently robbed at gunpoint.

The Sheriff’s Office reported that victims are usually unaware they are being watched or followed. Suspects typically observe customers from parked vehicles and target those who make significant cash withdrawals.

Authorities are urging residents to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings, particularly when leaving financial institutions. The public is also advised to check for suspicious vehicles and to vary their routes when heading to and from these locations.


This advisory comes in the wake of several high-profile cases, escalating public concern over this specific type of robbery. Law enforcement agencies are collaborating to address the issue and apprehend those responsible.
