BARNEGAT LIGHT, NJ — It was most recently known as Moustache Bill’s, but in 1959 when it opened, it was called the New Barnegat Light Diner. Now, it’s for sale for a huge sum.

Built by the Fodero Dining Car Company, the iconic twentieth-century diner is the epitome of Americana and roadside America. If features a similar look and design to dozens of other diners built during the era.

If somebody doesn’t buy it to reopen it, it could become a future condominium block.

According to Realtor, com, the 21,000-square-foot property in Barnegat Light, located at 704 Broadway, is on the market for $3.65 million. The listing offers a range of opportunities for both commercial and residential development.

The property is in a prime location in the center of Barnegat Light village, near the ocean and the bay. It is also near the local Lighthouse.

Priced at $2,592 per square foot, the lot is potentially suitable for new homes, commercial developments, or various other uses. There is also the possibility for subdivision into up to four buildable residential lots, although any buyer would need to complete their own due diligence on this matter, as far as the permitting and zoning process.

We’d like to see it stay a diner.

The property includes an existing 1,408-square-foot structure, which the listing suggests could be retained for restaurant or other commercial uses.

Given its location and the breadth of potential uses, the property is drawing attention as an investment opportunity in Barnegat Light. Whether for residential or commercial development, it represents a unique offering in a sought-after area.

Mostly, locals and tourists alike who spent their summers eating here, would prefer to see it stay a diner.
