Fugitive Who Killed 4-Year-Old Girl Trick-or-Treating On Halloween Sought by Police

COLUMBUS, OH – Columbus Police are seeking public assistance to locate Lazaro Becerra, 50, who is charged in connection with a 2022 Halloween crash that resulted in the death of a 4-year-old girl. The child was trick-or-treating in northeast Columbus when the incident occurred.

Becerra faces charges of vehicular homicide, vehicular manslaughter, and failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. The collision took place at Westerville Road and Valley Park Avenue.

Both the child and an accompanying adult were struck while crossing the street, despite flashing crosswalk lights being activated. The young victim was later pronounced dead at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Authorities request anyone with information on Becerra’s whereabouts to contact the Columbus Police Accident Investigation Unit at 614-645-4767. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Central Ohio Crime Stoppers by calling 614-461-TIPS (8477).
