New Jersey Couple Sentenced Again for Abusing Adopted Children

NEWARK, N.J. – Former U.S. Army major John E. Jackson, 48, and his wife Carolyn Jackson, 46, have once again been sentenced for their heinous crimes involving the abuse of their adopted children.

All these children were under 4 years old and developmentally delayed. The couple subjected the children to grievous neglect and physical abuse, which included breaking bones, denial of medical care, and other cruel acts.

On Monday, Carolyn Jackson has been sentenced to 140 months in prison, while John E. Jackson received 108 months. The Jacksons were initially found guilty in July 2015.

This marks the fourth sentencing, following multiple appeals and errors found in the sentencing process. The crimes occurred on a military base, placing it under federal jurisdiction. John Jackson was discharged from the Army in May 2015.

The case revealed a systematic pattern of abuse, neglect, and manipulation over five years. This consistent abuse was inflicted on three adopted children, while their biological offspring were instructed not to disclose the maltreatment. U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton handed down the sentences on Monday. The couple will also serve three years of supervised release following their prison terms.
