MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — A Montgomery County teacher received a $100,000 windfall after purchasing a “50 Years!” scratch-off ticket. The educator, who occasionally indulges in the lottery, chose the $50 ticket while at a local gas station, leading to her unexpected prize.
Celebrating the Maryland Lottery’s half-century milestone, the “50 Years!” game, released in February, features a top prize of $5 million. Despite the rarity of her lottery purchases, the woman from Olney decided to invest in the high-stakes game.
The 30-year-old discovered what she initially believed to be a $2,000 prize, only to have it confirmed moments later as $100,000. Overwhelmed by the discovery, she verified the ticket at the gas station, experiencing disbelief and shock at her fortune.
After sharing the news with her mother, who was skeptical at first, the winner has expressed intentions to use her prize to travel with her family. As for the “50 Years!” scratch-off, it continues to offer lucrative prizes, including two remaining $5 million rewards and three additional $100,000 prizes, available at Olney Shell and other lottery retailers across the state.
