JACKSON TOWNSHIP, NJ – The Jackson Township Council was running out of time to pick an interim board member to replace the vacancy left behind earlier this year by Marty Flemming. Flemming resigned from the council after it was brought to light that he no longer lived in Jackson in October.
Under state law, the governing body has 30 days to appoint a replacement. The elected officials voted 3-2 in favor of planning board member and Jackson Republican Club President Mordy Burnstein. Burnstein has lived in Jackson and has played a pivotal role in Jackson Township since moving to the town.
“I want to thank the entire township, the council and my friends and family who came out tonight,” Burnstein said. “I look forward to serving all Jackson residents.”
In his first speech as a councilman, Burnstein also thanked all of the veterans in Jackson who served.
“I want to take a moment to honor our veterans, especially in these times,” Burnstein said. “God bless our veterans and God bless America.”
Burnstein, who now must vacate his seat on the Jackson Planning Board, was appointed as the council liaison to the planning board.
Burnstein was congratulated by Ocean County Sheriff Michael Mastronardy, Ocean County GOP Chairman George Gilmore, Assemblyman Avi Schnall, Commissioners Frank Sadeghi, Bobbi Jo Crea and Virginia Haines and Jackson Chief of Police Matt Kunz.
