AKRON, OH – The Akron Police Department credited a new technological tool, “Prepared Live,” for the swift location of a shooting victim early this morning.

At 12:21 a.m., Akron 911 operators received multiple disconnected calls related to a shooting incident. Amid the calls, a distressed individual managed to utter “Help” before abruptly ending the call. Operators, leveraging the “Prepared Live” system, sent a link to the caller’s phone, which led to a plea for help and guided officers directly to a residence on the 1100 block of Hinman Ct.

Upon arrival, police found a 26-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. Officers administered critical first aid until EMS personnel took over. The victim was rushed to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital, received surgery, and is currently in serious but stable condition.

The new technology, combined with the quick response from officers, significantly increased the victim’s chances of surviving the gunshot injury.

Investigators are currently seeking a suspect, who may have been masked, and are working to understand the circumstances of the forced entry and subsequent shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
