Attack on Woman Aboard NYC Train Leads to Hate Crime Charged for 28-Year-Old

BROOKLYN, NY – The New York City Police Department has reported the arrest of 28-year-old Richard Taylor following an investigation into a hate crime assault.

Taylor, a resident of East 77 Street, was charged on Tuesday, at noon.

The assault took place on Friday, August 25, when a 23-year-old woman was attacked on a southbound Q train near the Utica Avenue subway station.


The suspect, who had tried to converse with the victim and was rebuffed, then punched and choked her. Fleeing at the Kingston-Throop Avenue station, the suspect was described as a 5’7” tall male with a slim build. The victim sought medical treatment independently.

The Hate Crimes Task Force is actively investigating and appeals to the public for further information.
