ELKRIDGE, MD – A Howard County nurse, known as “Meks,” won a $100,000 top prize on a $100,000 Ca$h scratch-off. The 41-year-old, who employs a strategic approach to buying scratch-offs, claimed her prize at the Maryland Lottery headquarters on November 7.

Meks purchased the winning ticket at Rainbow Gas Station and Convenience Store in Hyattsville. She regularly uses the My Lottery Rewards mobile app to research the start dates and winning odds of scratch-off games. Her method involves buying multiple tickets from either a single game or two different games, based on their novelty and her perceived chances of winning.

Previously, Meks’ biggest win was $5,000, but this latest prize left her astonished. “Winning $100,000 is beyond my imagination,” she said, despite being a frequent player.

The Elkridge resident intends to use her winnings to help others, set aside some funds for personal use, and invest in her children’s future.

Rainbow Gas Station and Convenience Store, located at 5801 Riggs Road in Hyattsville, will also benefit from her luck, receiving a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize ticket.

The $100,000 Ca$h game, launched on September 18, still has 61 top prizes of $100,000 available, along with numerous other prizes ranging from $30 to $5,000.
