Toms River North Clinches Victory in Central Jersey Group 5 Championship

TOMS RIVER, NJ – In a decisive showdown, Toms River North secured a commanding 49-14 victory over Washington Township in the NJSIAA Tournament Central Jersey, Group 5 final on Friday night.

Toms River North, with a season record of 10-2 and 3-2 in the Shore – American league, showcased their dominance early in the game. The team’s standout player, #1 Micah Ford, led with both offensive and defensive prowess, accumulating 58 passing yards, a remarkable 250 rushing yards, and one interception.

The game commenced with Toms River North establishing an early lead. In the first quarter, Josh Moore dashed for a 17-yard touchdown, followed by a 40-yard interception return by Ford, both successfully converted by Yianni Papanikolas’ kicks, bringing the score to 14-0.


In the second quarter, Tareq Council caught a 20-yard pass from Ford, widening the gap to 21-0. Washington Township, standing at 9-3 for the season and 3-1 in the WJFL – Continental, responded with two touchdowns. Jared Dzierzgowski contributed a 7-yard run, and Giuliano Scavetta added a 1-yard run, both followed by successful kicks from Josh Franchi, narrowing the lead to 21-14. However, Toms River North answered back with Nasir Jackson receiving a 29-yard pass from Ford, ending the half at 28-14.

The final two quarters saw Toms River North consolidating their lead, while Washington Township struggled to add to their score. The game ended with a dominant performance by Toms River North, sealing their victory at 49-14.

Cole Aquino of Washington Township contributed 114 passing yards, while Dzierzgowski and Scavetta added 37 and 86 rushing and receiving yards respectively. For Toms River North, Blaise Boland secured two sacks, further fortifying their defense.
