Florida Takes Legal Action Against Tampa Solar Company for Consumer Fraud

TALLAHASSEE, FL – Florida’s Attorney General Ashley Moody has initiated legal proceedings against Tampa-based MC Solar and Roofing, along with its owners Armando Almirall, Raman Chopra, and Michael Crowder, for defrauding consumers. The company is accused of exploiting vulnerable groups, including seniors, individuals with disabilities, and veterans, through misleading sales tactics and unfulfilled contracts.

The investigation found that MC Solar, leveraging various sales forces and deceptive practices, enticed consumers into costly solar agreements. Consumers were left with incomplete installations or, in some instances, property damage. According to Moody, the company’s actions were not just deceptive but also destructive, involving forgery, threats of legal action, and financial burdens on consumers.

MC Solar reportedly engaged in multiple unethical practices. They accepted payments without delivering services, causing significant damage to homes during incomplete installations. When installations occurred, they often failed inspections or were not connected to the electrical grid. Consumers faced long waiting times and unresponsiveness from the company, leading to direct confrontations at the company’s offices.

The company also allegedly misled consumers regarding federal tax incentives, warranties, and financing terms, resulting in heavy loan payments for many. When agreements were canceled, the defendants reportedly intensified their fraudulent activities by involving legal threats and additional fees.

The legal action by the Attorney General’s office aims to permanently prohibit the defendants from operating in the solar industry in Florida. It also seeks restitution for affected consumers, along with injunctive relief and civil penalties. The case highlights a clear violation of Florida’s Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and other relevant statutes.
