AKRON, OH (November 13, 2023) – An Akron Police Department officer faced gunfire in a late-night incident on Friday, November 10th. The officer was in a marked cruiser near S. Arlington Street and E. Archwood Avenue around 11:17 p.m. when the incident occurred.

After hearing a gunshot, the officer noticed a silver Chrysler Pacifica speeding southbound on S. Arlington Street at an estimated 80 mph. The officer pursued the vehicle due to the public safety concern.

The chase led to Reed Avenue and Clement, where the Pacifica stopped briefly. As the officer approached, an occupant in the vehicle opened fire, shooting multiple times at the officer before fleeing the scene. Further shots were fired at the officer during the pursuit.

The police eventually lost track of the suspects near Kelly and Wyley Avenues. Despite the gunfire, the officer and the cruiser were unharmed. However, bullets hit a parked car and a residence in the 1000 block of Clement Avenue. No injuries were reported from inside the home.

Evidence from the scene has been collected for processing. The Akron Police Department is conducting an intensive investigation to identify and apprehend the suspects. Officers across the department remain on high alert following the incident.
