Virginia State University Officer Wounded in Campus Shooting

PETERSBURG, VA – A Virginia State University (VSU) police officer was critically injured in a shooting incident near the university campus early Sunday morning.

The shooting occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. during a disturbance call at the VSU campus in Petersburg, Virginia. The incident was initially handled by Chesterfield County police.

The officer, whose name has not been released, was rushed to the hospital and is currently in stable condition.


After the altercation, the suspect fled the scene and is still at large. Following the incident, the university was put on lockdown, which was later lifted around noon.

Chesterfield Police Chief Col. Jeffrey Katz, in a statement, emphasized the collaborative effort in the ongoing investigation, involving Virginia State Police and the FBI.
