BAY SHORE, N.Y. — Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced the indictment of 27-year-old Darwin Barbacastillo from Brentwood. He is accused of breaking into a Bay Shore home and sexually abusing a 4-year-old child inside.

The incident, which occurred on October 29, 2023, was captured on the home’s video surveillance system.

The investigation revealed that Barbacastillo entered the residence through the back door early in the morning while the family, including the victim and her 9-year-old sister, were asleep.

Surveillance footage showed him testing the locks on bedroom doors and entering unlocked rooms. He then entered the bedroom where the two children were sleeping and sexually abused the younger child, causing her to wake up. Barbacastillo subsequently fled the scene.

The victim’s father, upon waking up and finding his daughters crying in the hallway, was informed of the incident. Upon reviewing the surveillance footage, he recognized Barbacastillo, whom he had met previously through mutual acquaintances. The footage also captured the act of sexual abuse. Barbacastillo was arrested by the police later the same day.

District Attorney Tierney emphasized the importance of protecting children, especially in their own homes where they should feel safest. He affirmed the commitment of his office to holding perpetrators accountable for such crimes against children.
