Off-Duty NYPD Officer Shot in Yonkers, Suspect in Custody

YONKERS, NY – A 27-year-old Yonkers man, identified as an off-duty NYPD officer, was shot on Tuesday morning while sitting in his SUV on Railroad Avenue.

The victim, whose name has not been released, self-transported to St. John’s Hospital in Yonkers with a gunshot wound to his left arm and is reported to be in stable condition.

Following the incident, a significant police response was observed near Tompkins Avenue in Yonkers. The incident also led to a temporary lockdown at Port Chester High School, which was later lifted.


The Port Chester Police Department indicated that the suspect’s vehicle was located in the village, leading to the suspect’s arrest without incident by FBI Safe Streets task force members.

Police Chief Joseph Monaco stated that the shooting appeared targeted and assured there was no threat to the community. The victim’s SUV is currently in police custody for ballistic evidence analysis.
