BELMAR, NJ – After more than a century, the White House Hotel on the oceanfront in Belmar is gone. The historic building, which had been abandoned, now lies in a pile of rubble. In its place, two new luxury townhomes will be built.

The Victorian-era mansion has been known for serving vacationers since it opened as a hotel in 1931. Located just steps from the Atlantic Ocean, it offered amenities ideal for summer residents. It functioned more like a private residence, maintaining privacy and exclusive use of its facilities for its occupants.

The White House was sold in 2017 to Down to Earth Construction for $2.4 million after the original owners found it challenging to maintain. This transition led to a series of legal battles concerning the development plans for the property. After five years of legal disputes and planning board hearings, a proposal for constructing two multi-room townhouses on the site was approved.

The demolition of the White House Hotel was completed by Down to Earth Construction, marking the end of an era for this Belmar landmark.
