NEW YORK, NY — The New York City Police Department has reported a series of coordinated robberies spanning across ten precincts, resulting in the arrest of a suspect connected to two of these incidents. Between October 5 and November 4, 2023, a pattern of 20 robberies was observed in the 1st, 5th, 9th, 61st, 66th, 79th, 83rd, 90th, 104th, and 115th Precincts, involving victims of varying ages and locations.

The robberies followed a similar modus operandi, with two male individuals on mopeds approaching pedestrians and forcibly snatching necklaces, chains, and other personal items. In several instances, the suspects displayed a firearm to intimidate victims. The majority of the crimes resulted in no injuries, though a few victims suffered minor injuries during the encounters.

Notably, the victims ranged in age from 21 to 68 years old, with the majority being female. The incidents occurred at various hours, mostly in the morning and afternoon, and took place in diverse locations, including Broadway, 3rd Avenue, Skillman Street, Walworth Street, Lorimer Street, Park Avenue, Houston Street, Northern Boulevard, and Avenue Z.

The suspects typically fled the scene quickly after committing the robberies.

On November 2, 2023, Joel Jimenez, a 22-year-old male from Brooklyn, was arrested and charged with robbery with a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of stolen property in connection with two of the incidents.

The NYPD continues to seek public assistance in identifying the whereabouts of the remaining individuals involved in this citywide robbery pattern. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline.

The police department is committed to ensuring the safety of New Yorkers and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
