New Jersey College Student Gunned Down in Nashville Laid to Rest

WALL TOWNSHIP, NJ – Jillian Ludwig, an 18-year-old college student from Wall Township, New Jersey, succumbed to injuries on November 8th after being shot in Nashville, Tennessee. Ludwig, a freshman at Belmont University majoring in Music Business, was attacked while walking in a park.

Family and friends attended a visitation on Thursday at Orender Family Home for Funerals in Manasquan. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial 9:30 am this morning at St. Mark’s Church in Sea Girt.

Interment to follow at Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan, NJ.


Born in Brick, New Jersey, Ludwig moved to Wall Township at age five. She graduated from Wall High School in June 2023. At Belmont University, she pursued her passion for music. Ludwig had a long history of involvement in music, serving as a cantor at St. Mark’s Church in Sea Girt and playing guitar with the Church of Brielle’s music ensemble. She was also active with the Lakehouse Music Academy in Asbury Park, performing at venues like The Stone Pony, Asbury Lanes, and Count Basie Theater.

In 2022, Ludwig launched “Playing it Forward,” a service project where she performed at local establishments to raise funds for musicians in need. Her commitment to music and community service was evident throughout her life.

Metro-Nashville police have arrested Shaquille Taylor in connection with the shooting.
