Suspect Arrested in Yonkers for Shooting of Off-Duty NYPD Officer

YONKERS, NY – The Yonkers Police Department has arrested a suspect in the shooting of an off-duty New York City Police Department officer. The incident took place on November 14, 2023, near Saw Mill River Parkway and Tompkins Avenue.

Responding to reports of shots fired around 11:30 AM, officers later discovered the victim, a 27-year-old male resident of Yonkers and NYPD officer, at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm. The crime scene was located on Tompkins Avenue at Railroad Avenue.

Investigations by the Major Case Squad, Crime Scene Unit, and Digital Forensics Unit revealed the victim was shot while in his vehicle, waiting to enter the Saw Mill River Parkway. Approximately 13 gunshots were fired, with one hitting the victim’s right arm. He drove himself to the hospital and was later released.


The Yonkers Police, assisted by the Westchester County Police Department and Westchester County Real-Time Crime Center, identified and located a vehicle related to the shooting in Port Chester, NY. A person of interest was taken into custody without incident on November 14 and formally arrested on November 16. The suspect, 30-year-old Bryan Martinez of Port Chester, is charged with attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. This targeted attack stemmed from a personal dispute between the victim and Martinez.

Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza commended the Detective Division’s work and partnership with county and federal law enforcement agencies in resolving the case and arresting a violent offender.
