Jury Scam Warning Issued in Pennsylvania

WALLINGFORD, PA – Chief David Splain of the Wallingford Police Department is alerting residents to a recent jury scam.

A local woman has fallen victim to this scam, resulting in a significant financial loss. The scam involves a caller, impersonating a member of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, falsely claiming that the victim has missed jury duty and must pay a fine to avoid arrest.

The victim reported receiving a call from an individual identifying as Sgt. Lewis, who alleged that she had missed multiple jury duties and faced arrest unless a fine was paid.

Following these instructions, the victim made a payment via Coin Star at Acme.

Chief Splain emphasizes that legitimate authorities do not request fines in this manner and asks anyone with doubts about jury duty to contact the county’s Jury Services directly.
