Middle School Students in Columbus Face Charges for Possessing Firearms

COLUMBUS, OH – An incident at Champion Middle School led to the apprehension of two students, a 12-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy, who were found with firearms.

The Columbus Police Department responded to the school located on North 22nd Street after a concerning Instagram post surfaced.

School authorities identified and detained the students. The girl was found carrying an unloaded concealed firearm, while the boy possessed a BB gun, which closely resembled a real firearm.


Charges against the girl include illegal possession of a deadly weapon in a school zone and a concealed carry weapon (CCW) violation.

The boy faces charges for possessing an object indistinguishable from a firearm in school.
