NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – A surprising discovery at Rutgers University’s Voorhees Residence Hall led to police intervention on Monday. A call reporting a python in a dorm room prompted the response of the Rutgers University Police Department.

Officer Rebecca Phillips was dispatched to the scene, where she successfully located and removed a baby python from the premises.

The Rutgers University Police Department shared details of the incident on their Facebook page. The snake, described as being a couple of feet long, was handed over to New Brunswick Animal Control shortly after its removal.


The duration of the snake’s stay in the dorm room and its condition at the time of discovery remain unclear.

Rutgers University Police emphasized the university’s policy regarding animals in campus housing. Students are required to obtain approval for living with support animals in university residences. Additionally, the police advised against releasing unwanted animals inside campus facilities.
