LANCASTER, PA – Derek Sensenig, 31, of Fulton St., Akron, was sentenced on Wednesday to 8 to 20 years in prison for his involvement in a fatal crash. Lancaster County President Judge David Ashworth oversaw the sentencing. Sensenig admitted to causing the September 2022 collision on Oregon Pike that resulted in the death of 65-year-old Jeffrey Myers.

Sensenig, with a blood alcohol content of 0.187% and under the influence of clonazepam, was driving a Lincoln SUV northbound on the 3900 block of Oregon Pike.

He veered into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with Myers’ Toyota Camry. On August 29, Sensenig pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle while DUI, homicide by vehicle, three counts of DUI, and leaving his traffic lane.

First Assistant District Attorney Todd Brown, who prosecuted the case, highlighted Sensenig’s two previous DUI offenses, emphasizing the severity of his repetitive behavior. During the sentencing, the victim’s family members, including Myers’ sister and wife, expressed forgiveness towards Sensenig.

Sensenig had been sentenced previously for a DUI charge on July 27, 2022. A clerical error by the Clerk of Courts, failing to submit the DL-21 form to PennDot within the required 10 days, meant Sensenig’s license was not suspended at the time of the fatal crash.
