D.C. Officers Honored with Lifesaving Medals for Heroic Response to Shooting

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The D.C. Metro Police Department officers Mustafa Ak and Don Marshall received the prestigious Lifesaving Medal for their swift and effective response to a shooting incident earlier this year.

On May 20th at approximately 12:53 p.m., Officers Ak and Marshall were dispatched to the 1400 block of H Street, Northeast, following reports of a shooting. They found a man with multiple gunshot wounds upon their arrival. Officer Ak, utilizing his Tactical Emergency Casualty Care Kit, applied a chest seal and addressed the victim’s other injuries. DC Fire and EMS arrived shortly thereafter and transported the victim to a local hospital.

The victim, critically injured and facing life-threatening wounds, survived due to the immediate and skilled medical intervention by Officers Ak and Marshall.


Police Chief Pamela A. Smith praised the officers’ actions, attributing the victim’s survival to their heroism and commitment to community service. The Lifesaving Medal, awarded to Officers Ak and Marshall on November 27th.
