Man Upset With Parking Ticket Steals Cop’s Phone, Runs

ANNAPOLIS, MD – A strong-armed robbery was reported in the 100 block of Brightwater Drive on November 30.

The incident occurred between 5:00 PM and 5:16 PM, involving a City of Annapolis parking enforcement officer and the operator of a 2015 Mercedes-Benz ML350.

Jose Cruz, 48, whose address is unknown, reacted aggressively to receiving a parking citation. In the heat of the moment, Cruz forcibly took the officer’s cell phone and fled to the 1000 block of Baywind Drive. He later admitted to the act and returned the phone with police assistance.

The victim, who did not sustain visible injuries, declined medical care. Cruz has been arrested and faces charges of robbery and second-degree assault.
