Police Confirm Joseph “Lizzy” Via Killed After Accident at Pennsylvania Packaging Plant

MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, PA – Joseph Via III, known as Joey and transitioning to Lizzy, tragically died in a workplace accident on November 30. The incident occurred at C-P Flexible Packaging, located at 15 Grumbacher Road.

Authorities reported that she was found unresponsive, trapped between a forklift and a tractor-trailer. The York County Coroner’s Office said the time of the incident is uncertain.

Via was rushed to WellSpan York Hospital, where efforts to save her life were unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead at 12:40 p.m.


York County Deputy Coroners Riley Demeritt and Tania Zech conducted an investigation at the hospital. Coroner Pam Gay determined that Via’s death was accidental, caused by blunt force injuries.

An autopsy at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown on December 1 confirmed the findings.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the matter which has been deemed accidental at this time.
