CHICAGO, IL – The Chicago Police Department’s Bureau of Detectives has issued a community alert regarding a recent spike in motor vehicle thefts in Englewood. Numerous thefts were reported throughout November, with victims discovering their vehicles missing either on the same day or the following day.

No arrests have been made in these cases.

The offenders have not been identified but are described as male African Americans. The police urge residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Recommendations include not leaving car keys in the vehicle, avoiding leaving cars unattended while running, and being cautious of loitering individuals.

Additional preventive measures include obtaining anti-theft steering wheel locks (especially for Kia and Hyundai owners) from local CAPS offices, having traceable markings etched into vehicle catalytic converters at any of the 22 police districts, and utilizing GPS tracking devices with reimbursement options from the city.

The police encourage anyone with information to contact the Bureau of Detectives – Area One at (312) 747-8382. The community’s cooperation is essential in addressing and preventing further vehicle thefts in the area.
