Newark Woman’s Car Stolen As She Dropped Child Off at School

NEWARK, NJ — A Newark woman who left her car running as she dropped her child off at school returned to find her car gone this week.

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé is seeking public assistance in identifying a suspect involved in an auto theft incident on December 7. The theft occurred at approximately 9:50 AM in front of Ridge Street School. Captured on surveillance video, the suspect entered and drove away in a vehicle left running while the victim escorted her child to the school.

The suspect, described as wearing a black jacket and a red sweatshirt with a hood, was last seen heading eastbound on Bloomfield Avenue. The stolen vehicle was later found by the victim at the Millennium Gas Station, located in the 100 block of Bloomfield Avenue.
