TENNESSEE – Severe storms and tornadoes swept through Tennessee on Saturday, resulting in at least six fatalities and widespread destruction. Emergency services reported extensive damage, and tens of thousands of residents were left without power.

Montgomery County confirmed three deaths, including two adults and one child, due to the tornado. Additionally, 23 people received treatment at local hospitals. The Nashville Office of Emergency Management reported three more fatalities in the Nashville suburbs.

Poweroutage.us indicated that over 80,000 people in Tennessee were without power as of Saturday evening. Montgomery County Mayor Wes Golden expressed his condolences, stating, “This is a sad day for our community. We are praying for those who are injured, lost loved ones, and lost their homes.”

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office noted damage to several homes in Clarksville. Dresden, a rural town, also experienced significant impact, with multiple trees, power lines, and houses affected by the storms.

Officials have urged residents to avoid roads to facilitate emergency response efforts. The county emphasized that search and rescue operations are ongoing. Shelters have been established in a local school and church for those displaced or needing assistance.

Earlier on Saturday, the National Weather Service had issued a tornado emergency alert for several Nashville suburbs. Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts acknowledged the extensive community damage, remarking, “This is a day that nobody wanted or expected.”
