FREEHOLD, NJ — In a recent survey by Monmouth University, frosted sugar cookies emerged as the top choice for Christmas cookies, capturing 32% of the votes. Gingerbread and chocolate chip cookies followed, securing 12% and 11% respectively. The survey revealed that while Americans have diverse tastes in holiday treats, certain classics remain favorites.

The survey, which asked participants to name their favorite Christmas cookie, found that snickerdoodles took fourth place with 6%, while butter, peanut butter, and chocolate cookies tied for fifth, each garnering 4%. The results highlighted a variety of preferences across the country, with many respondents fondly mentioning family-specific recipes like “mom’s cookies.”

According to Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute, “If you want to please your family’s palate this holiday season, your best bet is icing up a batch of Christmas tree or snowflake-shaped sugar cookies.” He added that most cookies on the list are likely to be well-received during the festive season.

This survey reflects the enduring popularity of traditional holiday cookies, while also acknowledging the wide range of regional and family-specific variations that Americans enjoy.
