New Jersey Senate Approves Wipe Labeling Legislation

Chris Quigley

TRENTON, NJ – The New Jersey Senate has passed a bill requiring clear labeling on non-flushable wipes to prevent sewer system clogs. The legislation, introduced by Senators Gordon Johnson and Joe Cryan, mandates “do not flush” labels on such products.

The bill, identified as S-3632/3649, aims to address the frequent blockages in sewer systems caused by improperly disposed wipes. Senator Johnson emphasized the unintentional nature of these clogs but highlighted their costly impact on homeowners and municipalities.

Senator Cryan emphasized the environmental concerns and the necessity of public awareness for proper disposal. The legislation prohibits distributing non-flushable wipes without clear labeling, intending to guide consumers towards responsible use.
