BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD – The Baltimore County Police Department is making a renewed appeal to the public in a cold case dating back 29 years. On December 12, 1994, George King, a 45-year-old overnight dispatcher, was tragically murdered during a robbery at Prestige Messenger Service, located in the 1500 block of Caton Center Dr., 21227.

Homicide detectives who responded to the scene found King fatally shot outside his workplace. The investigation revealed that the murder occurred amidst a robbery where several cases containing thousands of dollars in coins, collected from local pay phones, were stolen. These cases, described as black, brown, or gray plastic boxes or vinyl with metal corners, measure 11.5 inches wide, 14 inches long, and 5.5 inches deep. Each box weighs approximately 65 pounds when filled.

In the aftermath of the crime, five of these coin-filled boxes were recovered near Woodberry in Baltimore City. However, several boxes remain missing, and the suspects involved have yet to be identified.

King’s murder, occurring just two weeks before Christmas, left a profound impact on his family. Described as a devoted family man, King worked full-time during the day and took the overnight shift at Prestige Messenger to support his family.

As the anniversary of this unsolved case approaches, the Baltimore County Police Department is urging anyone with information related to George King’s murder or the whereabouts of the missing coin cases to come forward.
