Philadelphia Police Chase Ends With Shootout that Left Three Wounded, Included Two Cops

PHILADELPHIA, PA – A police pursuit of a suspected gunman culminated in a shootout early Sunday, leaving two officers and the suspect wounded. The incident began around 2:30 a.m. when officers responded to reports of gunfire and pursued a pickup truck linked to the suspect.

The chase ended when the suspect rammed a police car and opened fire on the officers. In the ensuing shootout, the 40-year-old suspect was critically injured and is currently undergoing surgery.

The officers, a 32-year-old with nine years of service and a 31-year-old with six years of service, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The 32-year-old officer suffered a graze wound to the nose, and the 31-year-old was shot in the ankle and grazed on the head.


The incident resulted in significant damage to the police vehicle involved.

The Philadelphia Police Department said standard procedure has placed the four officers who discharged their weapons on administrative duty pending an investigation into the shooting. The names of the officers and the suspect have not been disclosed at this time.
