TEMPLE HILLS, MD — A routine errand run turned into a surprising win for a Fort Washington resident, who secured a $30,000 top prize from a $3 Maryland Lottery scratch-off. Despite feeling tired, she decided to spice up her day by purchasing some instant tickets.

On December 7, while claiming her prize at the Maryland Lottery headquarters, the winner shared her preference for higher-priced scratch-offs but opted for cost-effective choices this time. Her shopping trip to 7072 Allentown Road in Temple Hills included a stop at S&W Liquors, where she bought a $2 scratch-off and a $3 Peppermint Payout Multiplier ticket.

The $2 ticket yielded no win, but the Peppermint Payout Multiplier revealed a startling $30,000 prize. Initially in disbelief, she sought confirmation from store employees, who congratulated her and advised her to sign and photograph the ticket for security.

The winner, overcome with excitement, contacted her son for advice. She has since secured the ticket and plans to carefully consider the best use of her windfall. Intentions include contributions to her church and assisting her close family.

S&W Liquors, the retailer of the winning scratch-off, is awarded a $300 bonus from the Maryland Lottery, a sum equal to 1% of the prize amount.
