Two-Year-Old Girl Dead After Picking Up Loaded Gun Inside Apartment

HAMPTON, VA – Hampton Police Department is currently investigating an incident involving the shooting death of a 2-year-old girl.

The incident occurred on Tuesday in the city’s Coliseum area. Officers were dispatched to Bridgewater at Town Center, a large apartment complex, following a 911 call made just after 1 p.m.

Upon arrival at the 500 block of Marcella Road, emergency services found the young girl in a third-story unit, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite medical attention, she later succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital.


The preliminary investigation by Hampton Police revealed that the toddler “obtained a loaded firearm and accidentally shot herself.”

As of now, no charges have been announced in connection with the shooting. The scene remained active with the presence of officers and forensic technicians until late Tuesday afternoon. The investigation is ongoing.
