BISMARCK, NORTH DAKOTA – In a significant development, the U.S. Marshals Service fugitive task force in North Dakota has apprehended 28-year-old Martell King, a suspect in an Akron homicide case.
Martell King was wanted by the Akron Police Department for aggravated murder, stemming from his suspected involvement in a shooting that occurred on January 29, 2022, in the 2100 block of 12th Street SW, Akron. In this incident, a 26-year-old man was shot while on the front porch of a residence. The victim was taken to Akron General Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Previously, on March 10, 2023, Mexican authorities, in a collaborative effort with the U.S. Marshals Service, arrested 26-year-old Leslie Lopez in Neuvo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, in connection with the same case.
The latest arrest of King took place near the 1100 block of N. 3rd Street, Bismarck, North Dakota. This successful capture was the culmination of almost a year of investigative efforts led by the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force from Akron, Ohio.
U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott highlighted the exhaustive efforts of the task force and the expansive reach of the U.S. Marshals Service, noting the significant distances over which these arrests were made, including one suspect in another country and another over 1000 miles from Akron.
