SOMERVILLE, N.J. – On Tuesday, Elina Gutti, 38, of South Bound Brook, was found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of her four-year-old son.

The conviction, announced by Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald and Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr., followed a bench trial presided over by Judge Julie M. Marino, J.S.C.

The incident dates back to February 6, 2021, when Gutti called 9-1-1 reporting a self-inflicted wrist injury. Responding South Bound Brook Patrol Officers discovered the child’s body with over 17 incised wounds to his neck in Gutti’s bedroom. A kitchen knife at the scene was identified as the murder weapon.

The Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Investigation Unit of the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, along with the New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, conducted the homicide investigation.

The post-mortem examination confirmed the child’s death was a homicide caused by multiple neck wounds.
