Police K9, Suspect Killed During Warrant Arrest in Pawcatuck

PAWCATUCK, CT – A police operation in Stonington, CT, resulted in the death of a suspect and a police K9 on Thursday night.

The Connecticut State Police were executing a felony arrest warrant and a search warrant on Mechanic Street in the Pawcatuck section of Stonington.

During the attempt to serve the warrants, an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect, identified as Vaughn Malloy, was fatally wounded. Additionally, K9 Broko, a member of the Connecticut State Police, was also fatally injured while performing his duties.


K9 Broko, who graduated from the 218th Connecticut State Police Patrol K9 Class in January 2021, was a valued member of the search and rescue team. This incident marks the first time a K9 has been shot in the line of duty in Connecticut.

The Connecticut State Police and the Office of Inspector General are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
