ROCKVILLE, MD — A spur-of-the-moment decision led a Silver Spring nurse to a $50,000 top-prize win with a Holiday Cash scratch-off. The occasional lottery player, who visited Baltimore to claim her prize, bought the ticket during a routine stop for gas.

At a Rockville gas station, she was captivated by the holiday-themed $5 ticket. “It’s a pretty ticket, Holiday Cash. Great colors,” she remarked. The ticket remained unscratched for two days due to her busy schedule.

When she finally scratched off the ticket, disbelief set in. Despite confirmation from her mother and sister, the reality of the win seemed surreal. The win was so unexpected that it caused her a sleepless night, prompting her to quickly schedule a visit to Lottery headquarters for confirmation.

“Wondering about it was driving me crazy,” she said, still in disbelief even after claiming her prize.

The Liberty gas station at 1298 East Gude Drive in Rockville, where the ticket was purchased, will also benefit from the win. The store is set to receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the top-prize winning ticket.
