OCEAN COUNTY, NJ – William Andujar, 52, from Whiting, entered a guilty plea to charges of Aggravated Assault and Driving Under the Influence (DUI) on December 18. This plea was in connection with a crash that occurred on November 2, 2020, in Berkeley Township, causing serious injuries to Susan Ewing, 44, of South Toms River. The Honorable Kimarie Rahill, J.S.C., presided over the hearing. The State is seeking a five-year sentence in New Jersey State Prison for Andujar, adhering to the No Early Release Act, with sentencing scheduled for February 23.

The incident unfolded around 7:00 PM on November 2, 2020. Berkeley Township Police were dispatched to a collision involving two vehicles on West Pinewald Keswick Road. Investigations by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Vehicular Homicide Unit and Berkeley Township Police Department revealed that Andujar, driving a 2010 Honda CRV westbound, rear-ended a 2003 Hyundai Elantra driven by Ewing. The impact propelled both vehicles off the road into a nearby wooded area, seriously injuring Ewing. She was airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune for treatment and has since been discharged, continuing her recovery.

Following the crash, Andujar was also transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center. A subsequent blood test, authorized by a search warrant, revealed a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of .18 percent, more than double New Jersey’s legal limit of .08. The test also showed a significant presence of Methadone in his system.

Andujar was arrested on November 24, 2020, by detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Vehicular Homicide Unit and South Toms River Police Department. Initially charged with Assault by Automobile, the charge was elevated to Aggravated Assault on December 8, 2020, following further investigation. Since his arrest, Andujar has been held at the Ocean County Jail.
