CHESAPEAKE, VA — Darlene Taiste, a resident of Chesapeake, experienced an extraordinary start to her workday when she won $500,000 from a Virginia Lottery scratch-off game. On her routine stop for morning coffee at the 7-Eleven located at 2444 Nimmo Parkway in Virginia Beach, Taiste decided to purchase a Cash is King ticket.

The excitement unfolded when she later scratched the ticket, revealing her as a half-million-dollar winner. “I was so nervous!” Taiste recounted to Lottery officials. “I’ve never won anything that big!”

Cash is King (game #2232) is among the many scratcher games offered by the Virginia Lottery. The game boasts prizes ranging from $30 to the grand $500,000. With Taiste’s win, she becomes the second person to claim the top prize, leaving one more top prize still up for grabs in this game.
