Father Killed by Carjacker Who Had Shot and Killed His Own Mother

LAS VEGAS, NV – A Nevada father of seven, Jerry Lopez, 39, was fatally shot in a carjacking incident on December 27 in the Southwest Valley area of Las Vegas. The tragedy, involving a gunman who later confronted police, occurred just two days after Christmas.

Lopez, described as a beloved father, was inadvertently caught in the violence initiated by Justin Davidson, 36. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that officers responded to a call at the intersection of Placid Street and Maulding Avenue following reports of gunfire.

The incident began with Davidson firing shots near his home, leading to a confrontation with his parents. Davidson fatally shot his mother and fired at his father, who managed to escape.

Karen Lopez, Jerry’s widow, recounted to KVVU how her husband was leaving for work and pulled over upon noticing police activity, unknowingly placing himself in the path of the armed assailant.
