New Jersey Driver Goes Wild, Striking Five in NYC Shortly After New Year Celebration

NEW YORK, NY – A distressing incident unfolded in Manhattan, starting near West 33rd Street and 7th Avenue, and ending on 34th Street, resulting in 11 people injured, including the suspect and a 39-year-old woman pinned under a food truck. The event occurred approximately 90 minutes after the New Year’s Eve ball drop.

The chaos began when police were alerted to a fight on West 33rd Street. One individual involved in the altercation fled in a black sedan, driving against traffic on 7th Avenue before turning onto 34th Street. On 34th Street, the 44-year-old driver entered the sidewalk, striking pedestrians and a food truck, causing injuries to six people and damage to a restaurant’s awning.

Three officers sustained minor injuries during the incident. The critically injured driver was apprehended on 34th Street and is currently in Bellevue Hospital, facing multiple charges. The woman trapped under the food truck is expected to survive her injuries.


Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances of the incident, including whether the driver was under the influence and the nature of the initial altercation. The vehicle involved was reportedly from New Jersey, but further details are yet to be disclosed.
