NEW YORK, NY – Over the New Year holiday, ten buses from Texas and Louisiana arrived in New Jersey carrying migrants. Four buses reached Secaucus.

Congressman Jeff Van Drew (R, NJ-02) announced plans to seek explanations from Governor Phil Murphy and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Van Drew, a veteran Republican lawmaker, attributes the situation not to Southern governors but to pro-sanctuary state policies.

Van Drew criticized Governor Murphy for his handling of immigration in New Jersey. He expressed concerns about the state facing challenges similar to New York City, which has had to divert funds from public safety and education to support migrants.

The congressman highlighted the recent surge at the Mexico-U.S. border, noting December’s record-breaking 276,000 border encounters, the highest in 20 years.

Van Drew also blamed the Biden administration’s border policies. He accused Secretary Mayorkas of mismanaging the situation and contributing to the border’s instability. Van Drew demands answers on the administration’s plans to address the migrant influx and its impact on New Jersey, including the costs to taxpayers. He plans to send letters to both Governor Murphy and Secretary Mayorkas, calling for accountability and clarity on their respective roles and actions.
