Albany Shooting Suspect Killed in Police Confrontation

ALBANY, NY – A shooting incident in Albany led to a statewide pursuit and a fatal confrontation with the suspect.

Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins and Mayor Kathy Sheehan detailed the events in a press conference.

The incident began on Wednesday afternoon around 1:03 PM, with shots fired in the area of 400 Hudson Avenue. The responding officers found a victim with a gunshot wound to the head, who is currently in critical condition at Albany Medical Center.


Through witness interviews and surveillance, a suspect vehicle was identified and tracked southbound on I-87.

New York State Police located and engaged the vehicle in the Town of Ramapo, leading to an exchange of gunfire. The suspect was fatally shot during the encounter, and one Trooper sustained minor injuries.
